June 08 News

Well I know it’s been a while but we’re still here – back from temporary bankruptcy and the late winter blues. Just to remind you, we’re a sort of hybrid of record company and music collective mostly run by the three main folks in Starless & Bible Black.

Some sweet Timbreland releases coming your way in the next few months. We’re proud to announce that three new acts have joined the clan.....

Sally Murray has put together a debut four track half-album that has hints of Feist, Polly Harvey and Linda Perhacs in her songs. This should be out in early July.

The Winter Journey is the husband and wife duo of Anthony Braithwaite and Suzy Mangion (from Manchester band George). Their album is a gorgeous selection of tunes – moving towards some of Macca’s finest ballads and Elliot Smith’s fingerpicked ditties but surrounded by more traditional British instrumentation and harmonies. Due for release in late July.

Koryo Saito is a Tokyo based musician who has been compiling recordings of his own quirky take on European acoustic music meets Tenori-on electronics. Having become an early fan of our label, we met him earlier this year and are pleased to be releasing his album towards the end of 2008 in the UK and Japan!

Timbreland @ Hedge 18 July  - Our friends at Hedge and Humble Soul who run their regular monthly night at the Carlton Club in Whalley Range are kindly putting on a night of Timbreland acts.  I Am Your Autopilot, Dan Haywood’s New Hawks, The Winter Journey and Sally Murray will be gracing the Hedge stage and We Mythical Kings will be on the decks. All for £5.

Starless & Bible Black News– we’re finishing some new recordings having spent a few days tape recording in Snowdonia and now we’re back to the cheaper village hall for the remainder. An album or two will be out late this year or early next. We return to play at our favourite pub at the Kings Arms, Salford on Saturday 7 June to air some new tunes along with the brilliant Red Deer acts David A Jaycock and Sophie’s Pigeons.

The Dan Haywood’s New Hawks album is closer to completion – there are so many amazing tunes that it may have to be released on triple vinyl – certainly double! Out next year sometime.

Nancy Elizabeth’s album “Battle and Victory” licensed via The Leaf Label last autumn has been doing really well in terms of reviews, sales and airplay. Infact so well that Nancy’s been inundated with requests for her musical contributions – she is singing and playing harp on the next James Yorkston album, she’s been playing live recently in Adem’s covers tour band and writing and recording music via the interweb with Japan’s experimental ambient supremo Susumu Yokota for his next album. All this along with tours of Mexico, Italy, France and Spain and preparations for her second album to be recorded this autumn. Oh and some recent recording with Manchester’s finest finger picking dude John Stammers....

So that’s all for now – more soon when we get these website updates sorted out...and have confirmed release dates.

Byeeee xx
