From shuffling, country drone and post-folk to understated acoustic fumbling and sleepily endearing psychedelia, this collection of 16 tracks represents a true snapshot of current musical endeavour aside from the mainstream independent music.
Featuring tracks by the following .......
Josephine Oniyama – rich, sonorous vocals wrapped around raw, soulful and funky arrangements that take in elements of hi-life, folk, pop, soul and skiffle. With local hero Paddy Steer on home-made drumkit.
Dan Haywood’s New Hawks - transistor radio country blended with ornithological folk all underneath the true eccentric genius of Mr Haywood. Songs written after months wandering the Scottish wilderness that you can’t help but listen to.
We Mythical Kings - mystery duo and pioneers of the country drone genre, laying everything down in one take using ancient analogue equipment and soaking the results in cavernous reverb.
Autopilot - Manchester’s most original studio trio, recording cut-up synth glitches, choir-like vocal gymnastics and backwards pianos to create truly original sounding electronic hymns.
Little Pebble - Edinburgh based songwriter extraordinaire who wears his songs on his sleeve with a truly honest lyrical style we can all relate to. Also records for the Fence Collective in Fife.
Tycoons Follies - a five piece beat combo with shades of the great Mersey Valley bands of the eighties. Instantly catchy songs that take in Mariachi trumpets and harmonious sun-drenched backing vocals.
The Wisemen - Lancaster’s very own tight but loose bunch of cowgirl-chasin’ multi instrumentalists with a fearsome live reputation and an ear for a great drinking song.
Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe - folk songstress from Wigan often seen towing her harp, khim and guitar around these weathered isles. Records her wondrous songs in churches and Welsh cottages and is blessed with one of the purest voices out there.
Salty DoGGG - a dreadlocked troubadour with a guitar style reminiscent of the late 60’s Brit-folk artists.. Found his muse while travelling around Europe and now writes spacey guitar journey songs. Also plays with 6 piece pop-folk combo the Waverton Collective.
LA77- DJ, manga obsessive and collector of obsolete computer music making equipment, LA77 creates head-nodding bedroom electronica inspired by journeys on the Tokyo bullet train.
