We're not just saying this but New Hawks are one of those rare bands who sound like all the good things you've heard before and at the same time like nothing you've heard before. Their main man Dan Haywood has one of the most extraordinarily honest voices, his lyrics are boldly original and he's a genuine eccentric - but let us not forget the fantastic music, mixing raw country and ornithological folk.
"The songs are live from N. Scotland, where they told me country music really came from. So we play this upland Britain music."
When you hear New Hawks music, it might be with the might of Billy Myall drumming up a snipe army inside Jeff Barnes. On the sketch of ‘Kopper Kettle’ Black David Blackwell intuited a blaze of northern lights on his sitar. Therese Standish is wild enough on viola, cello and whatever else she needs. The show could be filigreed by the finest steel from ex-Nashville cat GT Thistletwaite.
Everyone’s great. Or, occasionally, it might just be Dan, who cryptically states "I’m the unknown stuntman, who made Neil Young such a star". Do we have any idea what he means by this? Not at all!! Do we care? No!! - we'll just let music speak for itself...
